Lugari Girls Leadership and Mentoring
Training Camp

The Lugari Girls Leadership and Mentoring Training Camp is a powerful, life-changing initiative operated by Willing Hearts International Society Canada, a nonprofit based in North Vancouver. Held annually in Kenya, this 10-day camp has been running for over 12 years—growing from a small group of girls to over 200 participants each year.

Empowering the Next Generation of Female Leaders in Kenya

In partnership with the Kenya Ministry of Education, schools across the country are invited to nominate one girl with demonstrated leadership potential to attend. Girls travel from every region of Kenya—some making journeys of over two days—to take part. To ensure accessibility, the program covers all essential costs, including transportation, food, accommodation, and a chaperone if needed. Without this support, many of these girls would be unable to attend.

The camp is designed to equip girls with leadership skills, confidence, and mentorship tools they can bring back to their schools and communities. Participants are encouraged to share what they've learned by mentoring other girls, creating a ripple effect of empowerment across the country.

Over the years, the project has been supported by the Soroptimist International Road to Equality Appeal, as well as Soroptimist clubs across Canada and the United States.

In 2023, a group of nine Soroptimists visited the camp as part of a study tour to volunteer and observe the program in action. In 2024, that number grew to 13, with volunteers delivering the Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls curriculum and sharing a wide range of practical and life skills.

These visits not only enrich the camp experience but also inspire Soroptimists and supporters worldwide through storytelling and social media, highlighting the power of global connection and grassroots change.

How to support

Support the Willing Hearts Girls Leadership Camp

You can make a meaningful difference in the life of a girl by donating to the Willing Hearts Girls Leadership and Mentoring Camp in Kenya. Your contribution helps provide life-changing leadership training, mentorship, and support for girls from across the country—many of whom would not be able to attend without financial assistance.

You can choose to:

  • Sponsor a girl’s full camp experience

  • Contribute towards transportation costs so she can travel safely to and from camp

  • Help provide daily meals during the 10-day program

  • Donate a Days for Girls hygiene kit, ensuring each girl has access to essential health supplies

Every donation—big or small—helps empower the next generation of female leaders.
