Lugari Girls Leadership Camp In Kenya

The Lugari Girls Leadership Camp is a powerful, life-changing initiative fully funded by Soroptimist Foundation of Canada and SI Global.
The camp curriculum is designed to empower and enable the girls to become leaders, with the aim of them returning to their schools and mentoring other girls with what they have learned at camp.
This 10-day camp, held annually in Kenya, has been running since 2012 & has grown to over 200 girls from across Canada each year.

Empowering Girls Through

Knowledge and Skills

The camp curriculum includes:

Project Management; The girls are asked to take their project back to their village to be implemented with local girls invited to help.. Projects taught at camp include;

Making vertical gardens from readily available grain sacks. Enabling a family to feed themselves plus have left overs available to sell.
Raising chickens. Enabling a family to feed themselves plus have left overs available to sell.
Menstruation, hygiene & female health; A doctor attends the camp to explain menstruation & what is happening to their bodies, cervical cancer, breast self examination, how to avoid getting pregnant, morning after pill, how to get help if they are being abused.
The Soroptimist Dream It Be It (DIBI) curriculum and career fair.
Management & leadership training. Including SMART goal setting, action plans to achieve goals.
Sewing underwear from old t-shirts. Enabling the girls to be able to make their own (many have never owned underwear). This class also covers setting boundaries about private parts. The girls are given sewing kits and encouraged to teach their sisters and friends how to make underwear.

Your contribution helps provide life-changing leadership training, mentorship, and support for girls from across the country—many of whom would not be able to attend without financial assistance.

Contribute towards transportation costs so she can travel safely to and from camp ($100)

Interested in coming to the camp?

Every Soroptimist, who has attended camp, has said it was extremely fulfilling and some had said it's life changing.

This is a safe, organized way to get some hands on African volunteer experience, and get to know fellow Soroptimists at the same time.
